Security & Firearm Permit Steps
In California, every security professional—from entry-level guards to private investigators—is required to clear a criminal history background check. We provide certified Live Scan services using the specific BSIS-coded forms required to ensure your results are processed without delay.
Security Guard Card Fingerprinting
To obtain or renew your California Guard Card, you must submit fingerprints via Live Scan.
The Process: You must complete your initial 8-hour "Power to Arrest" training before or during your application process.
Forms: Use the standard Security Guard Live Scan form.
Fees: Typically includes a $32 DOJ fee and a $17 FBI fee, plus our local rolling fee.
Wait Time: Most clearances appear on the BSIS "Verify a License" website within 3–14 days.
Initial Firearm Permit (Armed Guard)
Important: A new Live Scan is mandatory for an initial Firearm Permit, even if you already have a Guard Card. This scan includes a specific "Firearm Eligibility" check that a standard guard scan does not.

Requirements: You must be 21+ and have completed the 14-hour BSIS firearms training course.

Forms: You must use the "Security Guard w/Firearm" form (A0522).

Estimated Fees: Total state fees are $49 ($32 DOJ / $17 FBI), plus our service fee.

Dual Submission: If you are applying for both your Guard Card and Firearm Permit at once, we can submit them together to save you time.
